Duhallow - Duthaigh - Ella - The District
of the Allow
The barony derives its name from the river Allow, which
rises in the parish of Clonfert about 10 miles N.W.of Kanturk. This river
flows into the Blackwater about 11 miles from Mallow.
Duhallow is in the north west of County Cork. It is bounded
on the north by County Limerick, on the west by Kerry. On the south it
is bounded by the Blackwater and by the baronies of East and West Muskerry.
On the east it is bounded by the baronies of Orrery and Kilmore, Fermoy
and Barretts and also by the river Clydagh for a short distance.
Its greatest length is twenty nine miles and its breadth
20 miles. Its area is 232,329 acres.
