Duhallow - Duthaigh - Ella - The District of the Allow

The barony derives its name from the river Allow, which rises in the parish of Clonfert about 10 miles N.W.of Kanturk. This river flows into the Blackwater about 11 miles from Mallow.

Duhallow is in the north west of County Cork. It is bounded on the north by County Limerick, on the west by Kerry. On the south it is bounded by the Blackwater and by the baronies of East and West Muskerry. On the east it is bounded by the baronies of Orrery and Kilmore, Fermoy and Barretts and also by the river Clydagh for a short distance.

Its greatest length is twenty nine miles and its breadth 20 miles. Its area is 232,329 acres.
