Banteer Hurlers go
under to Millstreet in championship
On Saturday
last, at the Kilbrin GAA grounds, Banteer Junior hurlers
were defeated in the first round of the championship by a
margin of two points.
The game
itself was an entertaining and fast game with both teams
playing well and the backs on top for each side.
The first half
saw Millstreet on top very much but despite their dominance
they were still only one point ahead at half time.
In the third
quarter, Millstreet started well and extended their lead to
6 points before Banteer came alive and clawed their way back
to level the match thanks to a goal from Conor Buckley and
points from Martin Kearney and Mike O Connor.
At this stage
Banteer were on the ascendancy and should have stamped their
authority and mark on the game but failed to do so and
Millstreet battled on and took the ultimate honours.
For Banteer
this performance was not one of their better performances.
The good side
is the team and the selectors have another chance to regroup
and show their true potential as Banteer play Meelin in the
next round of the championship, which is the do or die back
door chance.
Final score
was Millstreet 0-15,Banteer 1-10.
We wish the
team and selectors well in their quest to bring divisional
honours to Banteer. Scorers Conor Buckley 1-6, Mike O
Connor 0-2, Damien Kearney 0-1, John Lane 0-1.

Banteer Youth
Club Summer Camp:
56 groups around the Country working with children and young
people have recently shared in a grants fund of €100,000.
The grants were made by the Irish Youth Foundation, a
fundraising charity dedicated to providing positive
opportunities for thousands of children and young people all
over Ireland.
In announcing
the awards, Bill Cullen, President of the Irish Youth
Foundation, said, “Voluntary groups in so many
communities try real hard to provide their children and
young people with interesting and educational activities.
We are delighted on this occasion to be able to give a
grant of €1,500 to Banteer Youth Club Summer Camp”. This
money came from ‘Children’s Hour’ campaign where employees
from over 200 companies in Ireland donated one hour of their
pay to help children in need of encouragement and support in
their lives. We are delighted that Banteer Youth Club
Summer Camp will use the money for this purpose.
Banteer
Youth Club welcome this funding and will host a fun packed
summer camp in the first week of July. This is the third
year of the Camp .The programme this year includes among
other things, a number of workshops such as Arts & Crafts,
Dance, Drama along with special outings to Mallow and
Killarney .The local Youth Club members who range in ages
from 12 to 16 years old with some Guidance from Leaders and
Parents organise and run the camp.
