Banteer Hurlers reach Duhallow Hurling league final

On a sunny evening at the well-prepared Kanturk GAA grounds on Sat. last, Banteer Junior hurlers came out on top in a very entertaining league semi final game against present holders Millstreet and advanced to the final, which takes place this weekend against the winners of Freemount or Tullylease.

The game itself was highly entertaining with Banteer leading from start to finish and at one stage were 6 points clear.

Millstreet however kept battling on and with some late scores reduced the margin to the minimum, however time ran out and Banteer march on to another league final.

For Banteer they can be happy that this performance was a much improved and polished performance in a game that was played at championship pace. However the worrying trend was the number of frees conceded by Banteer with Millstreet notching 1-13 out of their 2-15 total from frees. Final score was Banteer 4-10,Millstreet 2-15.

This team have trained hard and each and every player has put in the effort since training started last January and the selectors Noel Kearney, Ger Moran, Pat Murphy and Eoin O Mahoney will leave no stone unturned to bring divisional honours back to Banteer.

With a Duhallow under 21 football title already in the bag this year, another hurling league title will be very welcome before the championship begins. We wish them the best of luck in the final.

Scorers Mike O Connor 1-0,Conor Buckley 0-5,Conor Lawlor 2-1,Anthony McCarthy 0-1,Shane Walsh 0-1,Martin Kearney 0-1,Declan Fitzgerald 0-1,Damien Kearney 1-0.
