BANTEER YOUTH CLUB SCOOPS YOUTH LEADERS AWARD |

At a
special function in Blarney Park Hotel on Friday last, Banteer Youth
Club received the Youth Leaders award for the leaders commitment and
dedication in making Banteer one of the most successful clubs in the
Cloyne Diocese. This award is a tribute not alone to the present
leaders, but to all involved with the Club and in particular the
members who are a credit to their Parents, Club and Parish. The club meets on a regular basis each week from 8pm to 10pm on Fridays at Banteer Community Centre. The club has a fixed range of activities on Friday nights including soccer, unihoc, table tennis, music, basketball, pool, table-soccer, air hockey, skittles, punch bag etc. The club also delivers a comprehensive programme of other activities, which caters for all the needs of its members. The following is a sample of the various other activities, which the club undertakes § Banteer Youth Club holds a summer camp annually to cater for the National School children in the area. This has proven to be a huge success. § Annual Santa Party. Over 60 families attend this event each year with the youth club members organising it with the help from the leaders. This is a hugely successful day for local families § Outings to RTE Studios, Croke Park for a tour of Museum and Stadium, Leisureplex for Bowling, Kinsale Outdoor Education Centre, Glen Eagle, Cinema § Other activities include Arts/Crafts night, Pottery, Beautician, Special Olympics fundraiser, Photography/Video: § An Gardai Siochana, Kanturk delivered a comprehensive lecture to all members on juvenile crime in Jan 2004,as well as a lecture on Drugs and drugs awareness in 2003, § Dr James Kealy delivered a lecture on health, hygiene and general care in Feb 2004. § Banteer Youth club members were presented with First Aid certificates after 14 members completed a First Aid Course run over 8 weeks by the Civil defence in 2003. § Mini-Mechanic - a short course was held to give some background on car mechanics in 2003. § Fishing- a short course on fishing was held to give those interested some information on coarse fishing and lake fishing. § Drama – some members participated in a local drama presentation during 2003 culminating with a fantastic performance at the Glen Theatre in May 2003. § Profile Model agency-Ed Jordan delivered a lecture in late 2003 re skin care and treatment, deportment and general hygiene. Mr. Jordan is set to return to the club at some stage in 2004 to put the members through their paces at a fashion show. § Youth Committee training: A Registered VEC Tutor Kate Kalin, facilitated Youth Committee training for the 14 to 16 year old members in 0ct 2003. IRD Duhallow granted funding for this training. § Gaisce-Presidents Prize Award- 11 members from Banteer Youth club have signed up to take part in the Bronze GAISCE Award. § Cultural Exchange – Kevin Forrest Youth Group, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Wales. Banteer Youth Club was successful recently in obtaining funding from IRD Duhallow under Leader+ to cover a Transnational Celtic Cultural Exchange Trip for youth club members and leaders. This took place in April and was highly successful. The Youth club is grateful to Cloyne Diocesan Youth Services for the support they receive and also to funding bodies such as IRD Duhallow, VEC, and Local sponsors all of which contributes to the success of the club. Banteer Youth Club also thank those for support for Cake sale on last Sunday to raise funds for the Gaisce venture project which takes place in Caherdaniel, Co. Kerry on 29/30th June.
