place in the Hall, Boherbue on tomorrow, Thursday, 4th October,
beginning at 8 o’clock. The line-up will include the
presentation of the Annual Accounts, Review of the Year and plans
for the year to come. Some new ideas and new
faces will be very welcome. If you are a member of KANDU, now is the
time to have your say. As many as possible are asked to attend.
Newmarket Toddler Group is opening it’s doors soon, as you will
see from the attached notice. Those starting the group are mostly
our own KANDU girls and they would like to stay associated with
KANDU, especially for the night-time activities, courses, outings
etc. Good Luck to those girls in the run up to their opening.

Bead Coaster
The new Bead Coaster which was purchased for the Toddler Group

answers! It was purchased in World of Wonder in Mallow and the cost
was £29.99. They also have a cheaper and a more expensive version.

The
Five Love Languages of Children.
Based on Chapman and Campbell's book, 'The Five Love Languages of
Children', this interactive discussion explores how each child, like
an adult, expresses and receives love best through one of five
different love languages. When this is understood, parents can use
this information to help them meet their children's deepest
emotional needs. This subject will be fully explained to you, by
Val Mullally on tomorrow (Thursday), when she gives her Talk of the
same name. It begins at 9 o’clock in the Hall, Boherbue and
Admission is £3. Everyone is welcome to attend. KANDU are very
lucky to host this speaker who has a very broad knowledge of
children. Don’t miss it!
A
massage may be just what you need!
Boherbue will have a very welcome addition next week in the form
of a new business called “Boherbue Holistic Centre”. It will be
housed upstairs at Murphy’s Pharmacy and to gain access to it, you
can use the side entrance. The proprietor is Noírín
Moynihan, MNHII, MIRI. Noírín is local to Duhallow and is highly
qualified in this field. Part of her training was done in Australia.
She will specialise in Therapeutic Massage, Reflexology, Sports
Massage, Lymphatic Drainage, Pregnancy Massage, Myofascial Release
and Trigger Point Therapy. Noírín opens for business on Tuesday
next, 9th October and her hours of opening are as follows: Tue...12
noon - 8 pm, Wed...9.30 am - 5.30pm, Thurs...12 noon - 8 pm,
Fri...9.30 am - 5.30 pm and Sat...9.30 am - 5 pm. For appointments
you can phone her now on 087 7986782. You will also be able to
purchase Gift Vouchers at Boherbue Holistic Centre for that special
occasion. Good Luck Noírín on your new venture!
Food
for learning...
In relation to their size, young children have surprisingly high
requirements. They need sufficient calories, protein, vitamins,
minerals and fibre to allow them to achieve their full growth
potential. In order to stay healthy and well it is important to
choose a wide variety of foods, which will provide all the nutrients
your young child needs. Encourage a regular eating pattern of meals
and snacks, as this is better than letting your child pick
throughout the whole day. Always leave time for breakfast. It should
never be a choice between breakfast and 5 minutes extra in bed! Make
good habits now, which can be carried through, for life. It can be
difficult to concentrate on school and play on an empty stomach.

Interesting Talk will be combined with AGM
You may remember Val Mullally’s article in the KANDU Newsletter
on Water Play before the Summer Holidays. There was very good feedback
to that article at the time and many people commented on it. We have
now decided to ask Val to come and give our Group a Talk and she has
agreed to do so. It will be held after the AGM on Thursday, 4th
October in IRD, Boherbue. The Talk will begin at 9pm and will be open
to the public, so you can tell all your friends too. Val has decided
to speak on ‘The five Love Languages of Children’.
She will expand this idea for us in the next few newsletters, so that
we will have a flavour of exactly what she will speak about. Val
lives in Bandon and is a published author in the area of Child
Development, especially in the zero to six age group. She has said
that her talk to KANDU will be applicable to parents of children of
all ages, even up into the teens. She has extensive experience
in working directly with children in pre-schools in South Africa and
is currently researching her next book. The AGM portion of the evening
will be open only to KANDU members. It will commence at 8 o’clock.
Toy & Video Library
Some newcomers were asking last week about the Toy & Video
Library. The Toy section consists of everything being used by the
children during the Toddler Morning. Smaller items are 50p for the
week and larger ones are £1. It is important that you put your name
in the book along with the item you are hiring. It is also important
to return that item in good condition the following week or else we
will be short that piece of equipment. The hire of the videos are £1
for the week and the same applies. It has been noted that some items
are still outstanding since before the summer holidays... please
return them now!
AGM Date Fixed
We are around to AGM time again and the date has been fixed for it.
This is a great time, as we face a new year, to focus our mind on what
we want to do in KANDU, who will organise it, how can we improve or
change the way things are done and so on. It is your chance to have
your say and all new ideas will be very welcome. At the AGM, there
will be a review of the year, officers will be elected and the
financial and other reports will be presented. It will take place in
IRD Boherbue, on Thursday, 4th October, from 8-9pm.
Variety in Night Classes Available
There is a huge variety in the Night Classes available from
Boherbue Comprehensive School this term. They will commence on the
week beginning Monday, 8th October, 2001. If you are interested in
joining any of them, you should contact the school before Wednesday,

Other News
KANDU features highly in the Duhallow Web Site now and it would be
worth your while to visit it again if you have not done so recently.
The Web Address is www.duhallow.com.
There is a gang of KANDU girls going to dinner in Killarney on
tomorrow night (Thursday) and you are also welcome to go along. About
8 are travelling and if you would like to join the ranks, contact Mary
O’Connor (Laharn) on 029 76023. Group Treasurer Majella Murphy
would now like to get in all monies from the Buggy Walk.
IPPA Workshop
The IPPA Workshop on Child Development and Heuristic Play takes
place in the River Island, Castleisland on Saturday, 13th October from
10am to 4pm. The fee for the day is £40, which will include
tea/coffee and a light lunch. You will receive a Certificate of
Attendance at the end of the day. Heuristic Play is a very interesting
study of the way children play and learn through certain kinds of
objects. It is particularly suited to two year olds. Apparently,
filling and emptying containers with all kinds of objects, how they
fit, the textures of the etc., is all a learning process for a
toddler. There is no right way or wrong way to do it. You can put
together a basket or other container with the following kinds of
items: curtain rings (wooden and metal), laundry pegs, varied lengths
of chain, ping-pong balls, bottle corks, ribbons, pine cones and
woollen pom-pom balls. If you are interested in knowing more, contact
Irene Ryan on 029 76314 to find out how to book your place.

small subscription, you get tea/coffee and confectionary etc., the
kids get their juice, biscuits & popcorn and get to do a craft.
There is also light and heat and everyone has the enjoyment of the
morning. From September, the entry fee will be £2.00 per family and
that will be €2.50 after Christmas. From 9th Feb next year, shops,
pubs, banks, garages and so on, will no longer be taking Punts and
